Local Attractions

Dolmen Cottage is perfectly situated to enjoy the abundance of attractions that County Clare has to offer. The cottage is located directly opposite Caherconnell Stone Fort and is a 5 minute walk from the famous Poulnabrone Dolmen. The following is just an example of these many attractions.

Caherconnell Stone Fort is an ancient and exceptionally well preserved Celtic Ring Fort in Ireland, situated in the Burren. The fort is in its original state. Its position, overlooking virtually all-surrounding areas suggests a defensive settlement. Dolmen Cottage is located across the road from the Caherconnell Round Fort.
Poulnabrone Dolmen. There are over 70 megalithic tombs in The Burren, the most well known and most easily accessible is Poulnabrone. Poulnabrone is generally considered to contain the remains of special dead and to have been a centre for ceremony and symbolism. Radiocarbon dating suggests that burials took place here between 3800 and 3200 BC.
The Cliffs of Moher on the west coast of Ireland are one of the most outstanding coastal features of Ireland. The cliffs rise from Doolin and ascend to over 700 feet (213 metres) just three miles south of the village of Doolin. Being almost vertical, their sheer drop into the Atlantic ocean is a haven for sea birds.
Aillwee Cave is so much more than just another cave. Aillwee cave is unique to the geology of the Burren and it enables you to explore a little of what lies under the exciting landscape. This stunning creation of nature was formed by the melt waters of a prehistoric ice age. The cave, carved out of limestone, cuts into the heart of the mountain.
Bunratty Castle & Folkpark includes two wonderful experiences – the acclaimed 15th century castle and the 19th century folk park. The Castle is the most complete and authentic medieval fortress in Ireland.  Built in 1425 it was restored in 1954 to its former medieval splendour and now contains mainly 15th & 16th century furnishings, tapestries, and works of art which capture the mood of those times.
Newtown Castle Clare Ireland
Newtown Castle, Ballyvaughan is a beautifully restored 16th century towerhouse with unique architectural features. The castle is located 1.5 miles (2.5 km) southwest of Ballyvaughan, in County Clare, Ireland. Newtown Castle is a popular wedding venue. Dolmen Cottage provides ideal self catering accommodation for guests attending a wedding at Newtown Castle.
